An Introduction to DIY Labwork and Grinding
First we'll be addressing some of the common issues and misconceptions with DIY biology and how it we are hindered by our lack of understanding about biological systems. This is followed by a brief breakdown of Grinding and then we'll talk about lab technique, reproducibilty, application of the scientific method, open access, and how to use these tools to circumvent the issues mentioned in the first half.

Helping the Color Blind See Colors
Devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids provide accommodation for deficiencies of perceptual systems in the body (and/or their augmentation). In clinical studies, perceptual aids have been shown to have significant effects that are explained by neural plastic growth in response to the expanded stimulus to the receptive pathways. Use of hearing aids improves un-aided hearing. Monocular blanking treats amblyopia by forcing the weak eye to process more information. EnChroma glasses are optical assistive devices that help those with color vision deficiency (color blindness) see colors more like people with normal color vision. The glasses use a special spectral-filtering technology to enhance color vision--often quite profoundly and with unexpected results.Helping the Color blind see colors

Body-Centric Interaction with Mobile and Wearable Devices
Mobile and wearable devices are often so small, limiting what we do with them. In this talk I will showcase how to combine these small devices and the much bigger space on and around the user's body, how the body can 'store' information for the devices, and the devices can sense the body's gesture, posture, and movement. Together, these elements create a new class of 'Body-Centric Interaction' for the next generation of interactive systems.
